What Can I Do On The Course?

On this course you will be able to learn how to make silver jewellery and gain knowledge of a variety of Silversmithing and Jewellery Making techniques through undertaking a number of starter projects to teach you the basics over three terms of ten weeks each, totalling thirty weeks of guided learning per academic year.

The class uses a structured series of projects to guide you through a variety of techniques involved in making silver jewellery. The starter projects will help you to learn the basic skills that will help you to design and develop your own designs and ideas.

You will also learn about the tools and equipment used in Silversmithing and Jewellery Making and develop an understanding of the health and safety requirements and observations that must be in place to ensure a safe and well-run workshop environment.

What Do I Need To Start The Course?

To start the course, you should bring a pen, pencil and a small container for your work and any scrap metal you may accrue. The basic tools are provided and it is recommended that you do not invest in any tools until you have gained more experience on the course. The tutor will be able to recommend the tools and equipment that you may need to be able to continue your work at home.

Knowledge of basic workshop skills and how to use a selection of hand tools is useful, but not essential as you will be taught how to use each of the tools available.

On the first session you will need some money to purchase the silver you use for the first project.

Anything Else?

Please note that you will also need to complete an enrolment form that will be sent to you by email following your purchase, and ensure that you have read and understand the Learner Handbook and that you comply with the terms and conditions before enrolling on this class.

Please note that if you are paying a deposit for the course, the remaining balance is due on the first night of class

Please note that our policy is not to accept students who are currently running a jewellery-related business, making jewellery to sell or looking to use the class in order to do so, and specifically not those looking to teach - this course is not suitable.
